How did you get started in the industry?
I hold two degrees in the arts and studied design and photography with really inspiring professors. After some time creating work for corporations, I began creating event stationery and photographing weddings for friends. Those first events sparked a love and excitement for weddings and got me started in the event industry.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by each couple’s unique story and knowing that I play such an important role in documenting their momentous occasion. I love getting to know my clients; their families and friends and love the quest to ensure these relationships are captured through my photography.
What style of photography do you specialize in?
Stylized Photojournalism and portraiture.
What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of my job is the honor of being trusted to capture images that will help to tell the story of each wedding for years to come. I get a front row seat to the events of the day which consistently elicit the most genuine of emotions. At the end of each wedding I feel as though the couple, their friends and their families are an extension of my own family. I feel a connection with all of my couples and love to follow their adventures long after their weddings.
For an engaged couple, when is the best time to book the photographer?
It is best to secure the photographer that matches your style as soon as your date and venue are chosen. The most popular seasons often book rather quickly.
What are some things couples should look for when choosing a photographer for their wedding?
When choosing a photographer, make sure the style of work that you wish for matches the strengths of the photographer. Also consider your comfort level with the person who will be photographing you. The photographer is with you through the entire day from getting ready to dancing your hearts out. Your photographer should be someone that makes you feel relaxed and confident.
What advice do you have for couples planning their big day?
Your wedding day is often the one time when all of the people you love are in the same place together celebrating you! Think about what YOU love in a celebration and create your day around that. Trying to please everyone else is a tall order and I have seen a lot of couples sacrifice their own wishes to appease their guests.
